Damage Check

AutoCheck checks damage-related event from an auction or an independent source. Not all damage events are reported to AutoCheck.

"Damage Reported" means that a (i) State agency or third party reported an event that did or may have resulted in vehicle frame or mechanical damage, such as a collision or incident such as vandalism or theft, or (ii) a third party reported that an inspection indicates that a vehicle appears to have sustained frame or other damage. Not all damage events are reported to AutoCheck and the damage severity of reported events will vary. In all events AutoCheck recommends that prospective vehicle purchasers conduct a detailed vehicle inspection prior to purchase of a pre-owned vehicle.

"Alert" means that damage was reported per the criteria above, however, there is one or more repair record also. This usually applies to frame/structural damage.

Odometer Check

AutoCheck check the following to determine if there are potential odometer issues:

  • State Odometer Title Brands: The following brands and similar brands are checked:

    • Not Actual Mileage: This brand is issued when the owner states that the odometer may not reflect the actual mile mileage of the vehicle. Reasons usually are due to possible tampering, damage or odometer replacement.

    • Exceeds Mechanical Limits: Seller is required to disclosed under Truth of Mileage Act when a vehicle with a 5-digit odometer cannot accurately track mileage after 99,999 miles because the odometer rolls over.

  • Auction Announcements: Sellers are required to disclose if the vehicle, under 16,000 GVW, with an inoperable odometer, or an odometer reading which reflects mileage in excess of its mechanical limits or an odometer reading which does not represent the actual mileage.

  • Odometer Calculation: AutoCheck examined the odometer readings reported to AutoCheck and see if there is potential issue of an odometer rollback or tampering. AutoCheck uses business rules to determine if the odometer readings are significantly less than previously values.
